It is important that you get the New York auditions as soon as they are posted so that you can get a jump on it. Because there are so many casting calls in New York City, it is not possible to attend them all. That means you have to prioritize which ones you should go to and keep a focus in mind. For example, if you are aspiring to be both a model and an actress or actor, it may be wise for you to put your focus in just one interest so that you can go to more casting calls. This also means that if you keep practicing in just one area, say modeling, then you can get better at going to New York auditions. Just like the old adage says, practice does make perfect, especially in this case.

Once you have figured out your area of focus, it is time to narrow down which casting calls you want to go to. Do some quick research about the New York auditions before you go to them because you do not want to waste your time. There may be times when there are auditions going on at the same time, but one is across town from another and there is no way to make it to both. It is important that you arrive on time to the auditions and come prepared. If you are trying for an acting role, you’ll need your resume and headshot along with a monologue prepared. It is never the case that someone is too prepared for something. In the case of modeling, you’ll also need some photographs to bring to the casting call and be sure to do your make up before you leave. This way you won’t have to waste time touching up while everyone else is already ready. Casting directors do not like when people are late so make sure you arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of time. If it is an open casting call, you’ll probably have to wait in line for hours, so get their early so that you will be seen first. Casting directors are people too and tend to get tired by the end of the audition. That means that will be irritable and probably not give you the attention you deserve if you are the very last person to audition.
